ZX-81

then a C64.

School had a few BBC's - but all hooked up to old portable tellys. It was worth doing Computer Science for O and A level just to be able to go to the computer room at lunch / free periods and watch cricket and racing.

Re: Your first computer?
I remember seeing some graphics on an Amiga (there was one of Tutankhamen on their promotional material) and at the time i wondered how it could ever get any better than that.

First one I used was a zx81 in primary school.

First we owned as a kid was a Vic 20, upgraded to a c64, then an amiga with the 1/2 mg upgrade, then eventually a pentium pc.

Surprising that Commodore went broke when they were so popular and ahead of the field while IBM and Apple were far behind.

Re: Your first computer?
I remember religiously buying (sometimes nicking whilst prepping papers for my paper round) Zzap 64 magazine with the free demos.

Also remember when you could copy games. Buy a game for £9.99, copy it on a double cassette machine, take it back and say "wrong game" buy a new game et voila 2 games for 1

Re: Your first computer?
the crazy thing about those times is you could buy magazines/books with game programmes that you could type in yourself but it would take hours to input the data, to then be underwhelmed by the most basic of games :.)

Re: Your first computer?
I remember writing a massive computer program to do something or other, and dropping the cards.

Took me longer to put them back in order than it would have to submit it for punching again.
